5 Ways To Promote Your Blog Posts On Social Media

You’re ready to publish a brand new blog post. You’ve worked hard on this post and spent hours, days, and weeks researching and writing. Now, it’s time to share. But wait! Before you press publish, you need to make sure all your followers across all your social media platforms will be able to experience this rock-star blog post!

Yeah, it’s easy to share your blog post on each platform, but you should take the time to tailor a message to each platform’s audience. Some platforms are all about the visual, while others focus more on words. You want people to interact with your posts. You don’t want to miss an opportunity to customize a post and reach as many potential readers as possible.

Here are five ways to promote your blog post:

5 Ways to Promote Your Blog Posts on Social Media (2)

1. Facebook

You’ve probably shared a post on Facebook. To optimize your blog post, write a quick summary caption and then insert the link back to your blog. Keep in mind that readers can only see the first 50 characters on a Facebook post. I suggest keeping it short and sweet. If you want to keep it a little longer, put the most engaging part of the post first.

When you insert a link, it automatically displays the main image of your blog or website instead of the image for a specific blog post. If that’s not the image you want, upload a new, custom image to the Facebook post, and you’re good to go!

2. Twitter

One of the best ways to get engagement on a Twitter post is to include @ handles. You can credit another Twitter account or shout out someone who inspired the blog post. Adding an @ handle is meant to boost your search results and offer better networking options. Only do this if it’s appropriate! Otherwise, you’ll look like spam and possibly get blocked. We don’t want that to happen.

Other ways to increase Twitter engagement are to add an image, use a hashtag, or add a call to action. More people interact with tweets that include images; a hashtag will make your tweet more searchable for trending keywords. Don’t go overboard with the hashtags, though. I suggest using 2-3 hashtags at a time.

A tweet has a lifespan of less than 20 minutes, so you want to make each tweet count! To promote your blog on Twitter effectively, tweet it multiple times (on different days and times).

3. Pinterest

Pinterest is all about the visual! You can write a quick description to explain the blog post’s topic but then focus on the image. I suggest creating a custom, Pinterest-friendly image to pin.

Pinterest likes vertical images and images with text overlay. You can put your blog’s title over a relevant image and get to pinning! Remember to add the link so the pin will take readers directly to your post.

In your description, include a call to action (repin, repost, read more, etc.) to get the most out of your pin.

4. LinkedIn

Sharing a blog post on LinkedIn is very similar to Facebook. You can write a caption, upload an image, insert the link, and press share. However, I suggest you take it one step further. Instead of sharing, you can publish a new blog on your LinkedIn page. This will archive the post on your LinkedIn page instead of getting lost on your LinkedIn feed. You’ll still want to add a link to your blog/website.

No matter if you share or publish, LinkedIn is a platform that encourages re-shares.

4. Instagram

Instagram is somewhat of a hybrid of all the previous social media platforms.

Like Pinterest: Images are the main attraction on Instagram. However, there are two significant differences: The life span of an Instagram post is much shorter, and the captions matter more.

Like Twitter: Hashtags and @ handles are part of the landscape. Hashtags are much more influential on Instagram. In some cases, captions only consist of hashtags. You can use up to 30 hashtags; I suggest using up to 15.

Like Facebook: Shorter captions are something to keep in mind, but long-form performs well, too.

Inserting your blog post link in an Instagram post won’t work. Viewers won’t be able to click on it, but adding the link to your bio/profile allows viewers to visit your blog.

Wrap it up

That’s it! Switch up the captions for all of your posts. Don’t drag one caption from platform to platform. If you don’t want to write out a detailed caption for each post, condense the captions as you go.

Once you’ve shared your blog post, consider sharing it even further across social media. You can share between Facebook groups and pages and re-share in LinkedIn groups.

There you go! Happy promoting!
